I graduated from Wirral Metropolitan College in 2002 with a First Class BA Honours Degree in Fine Art. Whilst studying I was joint prize winner in the Wirral Spring and Photography Exhibition (2000). In 2003 I was runner up in the Daily Mail Weekend competition 'Not the Turner Prize'. In 2007 I was second prize winner in the Chester Grosvenor Museum Biennial Open Exhibition. I was also invited to exhibit in the Chester Grosvenor Museum Exhibition Face Value 'Portraits in Public and Private' in 2010. Winner Kriterion Prize, Williamson Spring Open 2015.

I have paintings in public and private collections and am available for portrait commissions of pets and people using oils on canvas, or charcoal or pencil on paper. I can work from suitable client photographs, or can work from photographs taken by myself along with sketches. My work is enriched by meeting and getting to know my subjects.

As an artist I am instinctively drawn to the living form and to light. I approach my work intuitively finding that composition, colour, pose and facial expression suggest some psychological insight. I like to explore the interplay of light and dark in my work and I use this to create a sense of drama and dynamism; it is often the way light falls on a subject that first attracts my attention. For me painting and drawing is a dynamic, active dialogue between me and the work itself. As the process develops the picture evolves and at some point becomes a separate, finished entity.
